In the cross of Christ we behold a grace, As the Lamb of God suffered in our place, Where unfailing love paid the greatest cost - So sing out, sing out in praise. With the empty tomb at the break of day, Death had lost its grip, Christ had made a way For the curse of sin to be overcome - So sing out, sing out in praise. Lift your eyes above, See our King upon his throne. We will reign with him, so let this hope Be an anchor for the soul. In the endless night when the battles rage, And when sorrow flows out of every page, From the deepest depths He will hear your call - So sing out, sing out in praise. With the gift of faith and the Spirit's power, We can stand secure in our darkest hour, For his promises, they will never fail - So sing out, sing out in praise. We await the day that our Saviour comes When the night will flee, and the world is done. To the Father’s house He will call us home, So sing out, sing out in praise.

Jesus, Friend and precious Saviour Word in flesh with truth and grace You came down to dwell among us Friend of sinners You embraced God of glory emptied self and Took the nature of a man Jesus tempted, still found sinless All our faults You understand On the cross You died to save us Rose again, defeated death Now exalted, worth all worship You've redeemed our ev'ry breath What a myst'ry, Lord, that You should Even choose to call us friends Only Your great sacrifice can Bring together God and men In the quiet of the morning Moments 'till the start of day You remind me of Your mercies Never ceasing come what may Even when I fail to please You In my thoughts and words and deeds You extend Your gracious arms and Bring the healing that I need When the heavens and the earth fade When all things are brought to light You will welcome those who trust You As Your perfect, spotless bride Oh what joy will fill Your people Oh what glorious unity Jesus, Friend and precious Saviour Friend for all eternity

Holy 03:57
Come let's praise the Lord He is worthy of praise Heav'n and earth bow down To the King who reigns Holy, holy are you Lord Holy is your name O Lord Nations tremble at your voice Your ways are so great O God Though the days be dark And mens’ hearts may fail Jesus is my rock To the end of time Oh shout you redeemed For your King has come Now the old has gone And the new has come And the new has come
5.
There's a hope that reaches every land That sets us free, from brokenness and fear For cries of mercy, there comes salvation In to the darkness, shines light There's a hope passed down through every age That we've received, on which we take our stand What's sown dishonoured, shall rise in glory What's sown to perish, shall rise everlasting Death defeated, heaven opened Jesus lives again Sins forgiven, darkness conquered The triumph of the cross - Christ over all There's a hope that overcomes the grave It's swallowed up, that death may sting no more What's sown in weakness, shall rise in power What's sown in nature, shall rise in the Spirit In a flash, in the twinkling of an eye We will all be changed At the end, the last trumpet will resound We will all be changed
6.
So Near 02:49
So near, so very near to God No nearer can I be For now my life is found in Christ I am as near as he So dear, so very dear to God No dearer can I be For now the love he bears to Christ This love he bears to me How great, how lavish is his love That he should call me child How vast the grace bestowed on me A sinner reconciled How precious are his promises To such a soul as this In life, in death, I rest secure For I am wholly his So when the weight of guilt assails With accusation’s chains I run triumphant to the cross Where sin no longer reigns There is no condemnation now For those who are in Christ He is my Lord, my Advocate My Saviour and my Life
7.
Oh God's grace, how sweet and free That your mercy came for me You saw my distress, wretched helplessness And you sought what was lost Oh God's gift of faith alone Christ's perfection made my own Nothing can I bring as an offering Jesus paid every cost And on these precious truths we stand Upheld by your unfailing hand Wisdom fades and powers fall But your great love surpasses all Oh God's Word, how firm and sure His unfading treasure store Bringing hope and light, armour for the fight Through the gospel that saves Oh God's King, our Christ the Lord Our salvation His reward Perfect sacrifice won eternal life As he rose from the grave Oh God's name above all names His the glory, His the fame We can only give humble hearts to live For His honour and praise
8.
Have mercy on us O Lord For we are weak Heal us, restore us and still our fears We chose the wrong So touch us, forgive us And turn us again Turn us again O God, turn us again O God Cause your face to shine And we shall be saved, we shall be saved We shall be saved when you shine your face Have mercy on us O Lord Regard your vine Suffering and thirsty for gentle love Help from above Reclaim us, retain us Return to us Lord Return to us O Lord, return to us O Lord Bend your gracious gaze And watch over us, watch over us Watch over us, restore your wounded ones Have mercy on us O Lord Draw near anew Nurture and nourish, oh guide our life That we may thrive So tend us, defend us And turn us again So we will not turn away, so we will not turn away Shield us through your grace So we shall be saved, we shall be saved We shall be saved when you shine your face Turn us again O Lord, turn us again O Lord And cause your face to shine
9.
We've cried a thousand tears We'll cry a thousand more Where are you Lord Our souls are pouring out We've fallen to the floor Where are you Lord We long to see your face turn upon our distress Where are you Lord Our bodies waste away We're down to skin and bones Where are you Lord We search for answered prayer Our way is lined with stones Where are you Lord We'll call upon your name 'til you bring us relief Where are you Lord Take heart, oh my soul Remember the Lord's great love You know his mercies to be new every morning Great is your faithfulness Have hope, oh my soul And wait for the sun to rise He is your portion and his grace never ceases Great is your faithfulness Our hearts are full of sin We've wandered from the light Where are you Lord Your anger sets a fire That rages through the night Where are you Lord We'll wait until your arms reach again to redeem Where are you Lord
10.
Our soul waits for the Lord For the Lord Our soul waits for the Lord For the Lord He is our help and our shield He is our help and our shield Let your steadfast love O Lord Be upon us, be upon us Let your steadfast love O Lord Be upon us, be upon us For we hope in You Our heart is glad in him In him Our heart is glad in him In him We trust in his holy name We trust in his holy name Let your steadfast love O Lord Be upon us, be upon us Let your steadfast love O Lord Be upon us, be upon us For we hope in You And You alone
11.
The day the angel came The light began to spark A promise to a virgin bride A child; Immanuel Bringing hope again To people in the dark Long foretold, the time was near For God to come and dwell And oh, her heart rang out Rejoice! The Lord has shown great mercy Born to me, but Saviour to us all The night the star appeared The light began to shine Guiding travellers from the east To see the King from old Shepherds in their fields Beheld a host Divine At first afraid, then filled with joy At what they had been told And oh, the choir sang out Rejoice! Great news for all the people Glory to our God in highest heights And peace to all on whom his favour rests From first breath in the straw To the cross where he breathed no more Life given out for the world From a tomb opened wide To a throne by his Father's side Life everlasting unfurled So we cry Hallelujah So we cry Hallelujah Let all the earth sing out Rejoice! The night is almost over, Christ our Lord, the King of Kings, is here The Light of Life, with healing in his wings

about

This album is the creative fruit of songwriters and musicians at Christ Church Cambridge. Though written by different people over several years, they have a common thread at heart – our sure and certain hope in God’s trustworthiness, goodness and faithfulness to his people in Christ.

We are humbled by God’s sovereign kindness in making this album happen – all glory be to Him. We are grateful too for the generosity and encouragement of our church family at every stage of this project.

All of those involved in this project are indebted to spouses, friends and others for their invaluable support and the giving of time to rehearse and record. I, personally, am particularly thankful to Sarah for her huge encouragement to me over many years to bring these songs out into the light.

Thanks also to Dan Wilde who has produced this album with much skill, patience and warmth.

We pray that this record might help all who hear it to confidently praise and joyfully hold on to the name of Jesus, through every season of life, as we wait for His return.
